PUSHING TO THE FRONT
Restaurant General Manager when I was only 22. Now, people say,
“He is lucky!”
However, after four years working, my life was changing. When I decided
to stop working for the restaurant and wanted to find a job that
takes me to a higher level of manager, I learned that, unfortunately,
with no university degree and with my experience only in restaurant
management – this does not fit requirements for high level of manager
job in an office. Therefore, I could not find a suitable job for the next
two years. Then, I had to restart and work as a sales consultant for my
father’s business – in fact, Sales Consultant = Salesman.
Once again, people said “He is unlucky to have made the wrong decision
to quit his current job; and now he cannot study in University and
cannot find a better job.”
In 2003, I got a new job with the position of Field Force Manager which
I have never done before, as well as I have no idea how to control the
staff which always works in the field. However, my General Manager
thinks that if I can be good in controlling restaurant staff, I also can be
good in controlling the staff that works in the field.
One month later, my direct boss, the Project Manager, and two other
important people; the finance manager and the human resources manager,
all quit at the same time. The reason: the general manager is not
good, they are working long hours, they have too many things to do and
they receive late salary payments, etc. I just ask myself: “Am I choosing
the right company or not? All high-positioned people are leaving
and the reasons they gave are all reasonable. Am I unlucky (again) to
join this company?”
Within only six months working there, I was promoted to Project Manager,
and during 1½ years working there, I was promoted three times
with three salary increases and each increase an average of 30%!
In 2005, I joined another company, and nine months later got promoted
to a higher position plus a 30% increase in salary again.
In August 2006, I joined another company, starting in the position of
Survey Manager. Eight months later, I got promoted, and have continued
to be promoted with a salary increase every year with an average
