THE SECRET TO lUCK!
Hey, I am new in this business, how can I know how to do it?
Sure, your experience is not enough; therefore, you must list out your
obstacles and your solutions. Then, you come back to your boss and
ask him, “Boss, based on my experience, this is my plan. Please guide
me if you think that even if I do all those things, I still will not achieve
what you want.”
From that, you will get the chance for your boss to guide or teach you.
Let’s look at it this way:
Imagine that you are the boss, you gave an instruction or your expectation
or assigned tasks for your staff to do and your staff immediately
replied, “Sorry boss, I don’t know” or “I can’t” or even worse your staff
said, “Someone did it before and failed already.” How do you feel? Do
you want to promote staff like that?”
So, if you want to get promoted fast like me – in different companies,
with different bosses and continue to get promoted after every eight or
nine months – don’t forget to stop yourself from saying the words “I
don’t know” or “I can’t do it.” For the person who works in a service
industry, using this second word is also good for your reputation as well
as for customer appreciation.
Small note, after I left the company, most of my customers would stop
their contract three months after that. Reason? The new project manager
would say “No” or “It is not possible to execute with that short a
period of time.”
And I do agree that “customers usually have a short period of time and
always want something as fast as possible.” However, imagine that you
want to have a holiday trip from Europe to Vietnam. Of course you
want to fly first class, stay in a 5-Star hotel, etc. …, but why do only a
few people actually do that? Because the price they need to pay is more
than they are willing to spend.
It is the same with customers. Customers describe their needs; they
give a description of what they want, “first class, 5 stars.” Instead of
saying, “it’s impossible with that short a time period,” just go back to
the office, calculate, and offer the “first class or 5 star” option. Also,
