Every time I want to learn something new, I read something old. I
picked up Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill when I was 30 years
old. After applying its principles directly to my life and businesses and
actively watching my dreams become reality, I was shocked that more
people had not found this book and its secrets. I was sitting in my study
last year reading it for the tenth time and I found myself wishing that
I had read it at 18. Oh, how my life would have been different! As I
leaned back in my chair looking over the hundreds of books in my attitude,
sales, and business library, something caught my eye. I got out
of my chair, walked to the shelf, reached up and pulled an old dusty
book down. Ironically, it was Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill.
I opened the cover and inside were the words, “To Forest, read this! It
will change your life.” One of my friends and colleagues, Robert Patton,
had given me this book when I was 17 years old, just days after
beginning my career in the gold industry. What we don’t seek, we don’t
find. It was right there under my nose the whole time, but I wasn’t actively
seeking growth and understanding, therefore I did not find it. Dr.
Hill was right; you really do become what you think about. And if you
think about nothing all day, that is what you will become.
Don’t wait until your golden years to learn the lessons that the great
minds of the world already paid a price for. 99% of the business and
personal obstacles that we face have already been solved by someone
else. We tend to try and reinvent the wheel over and over again instead
of using the blueprints that are readily available to us.
Take Action: Choose to have a voracious appetite for learning and
growing and you will be amazed at the immediate boost in confidence
and results. Seek out an expert or ten in your field and learn what they
have done to get from where you are to where they are. Read or listen
to at least one book a month that is directly tied to your goals and
