PUSHING TO THE FRONT
Well, I really wanted and deeply desired to have a baby. After twelve
years of marriage and believing God, the big “push” that I wanted was
on the way – I was finally pregnant.
Our family, friends, and various ones around the country and abroad
who knew that my husband and I were ‘believing’ to have a baby –
were excited for us. When we gave the announcement at our church,
the people jumped up out of their seats, grabbed one another with hugs
and exuberant joy, as they praised God for our prayers – and their
prayers for us – being answered. My heart was filled with gratefulness
to God and thankfulness for the wonderful people who had stood in
faith with me.
Then, just a few weeks later, my joy was shattered. Late one night in
October, when I was about eleven weeks pregnant, I began bleeding. The
bleeding was steady and profuse. The sight of it all scared me. As my
husband and I were rushing to drive to the hospital, I called our Church
family, who would alert other designated ones to also pray for us.
“You have to have a ‘D and C’ right now”, the doctor told me, coldly.
He did not examine me nor did he ask questions of me or of the nurse.
He only knew that I was bleeding profusely.
“D and C?” I quickly asked. “What is that?”
“It’s a procedure to scrape out your womb,” he answered.
“But what will that do to my baby?” I asked with great concern.
“Baby?” he responded.
“Well, you know that I’m pregnant, don’t you?” I answered.
“You passed tissue.” He answered roughly.
“Passed ‘tissue’?” I asked. I did not understand.
“You passed tissue. You lost the baby and your life will be in jeopardy
if I don’t do a ‘D and C’ procedure immediately. ”
As I hesitated, I could see him getting angrier and more impatient.
“You have to do this now,” he said.
