PUSHING TO THE FRONT
• EverTeaching – Since you are constantly learning and
improving, it is critical for you to continuously pass along
lessons learned to your team. One thing I witness from
passionate entrepreneurs is they forget at times how much
they have assimilated into their brains, and think everyone
should know what they know. Well guess what? They don’t,
and it’s your job to be constantly teaching and encouraging
them to teach others.
• Manage Expectations – This applies to your staff, and your
customers. This is an area of control and discipline. While
your passion and vision is to be, do, and create, you have to
manage expectations. It is not realistic to tell your staff you
will be a billion dollar company in a year. This undermines
the confidence they have in you and will keep them from
“catching” your passion.
From a customer’s perspective, a great example of control
and discipline is Apple’s® first iPhone. They chose not to put
3G on the phone. Not because the technology for 3G was not
readily available, in fact most Smartphones at the time were
either 3G or coming out with 3G. The issue was the battery
drain from the 3G. Apple® decided the feature was not worth
potentially disappointing their new customers, especially
with this being their first cell phone in the company’s history.
We all know what has transpired since. The iPhone’s user
satisfaction is unparalleled, they have created loyal customer
advocates, plus sold a few phones –more than a 100 million
iPhones worldwide!
You will know when your passion presents itself. It does not matter
the field or endeavor – from bug killer, plumber, doctor, lawyer, vacuum
designer, athlete, musician, artist, to ‘you name it.’ When it does
appear, you will move forward as if you are on autopilot with an endless
supply of fuel. Passion is intoxicating, it becomes an obsession.
By exercising discipline and control, you will attract other passionate
individuals that will not only expedite the achievement of your goals,
they in turn will attract more passionate individuals, both staff and
customers. When that happens, not even the sky becomes a limit.
