endeavors, we have started with a potential client. This has
rationalized the risk, given us a point of valuable feedback as
we build a business, and started us off on the right foot. There
is no greater risk than building a business without making sure
that there are potential customers. Give yourself peace of mind

Finding the right opportunities came naturally to us as we focused on a
particular industry throughout our career and aligned our growth through
observation and need. However, starting businesses and seeking these
opportunities took courage, energy, and skill, and in order to do this well,
we had to be focused, aware, and confident. Early in our careers, we
spent our free time listening to training tapes, attending seminars and
workshops, and reading books on sales and marketing. Throughout our
professional career we have practiced ways to harness our thoughts and
to understand how our thinking influences our success.
In 1978, we were introduced to affirmations, and they hugely influenced
our lives. What is an affirmation? It is a declaration that is focused
on a positive outcome or attitude. For example, Alan has used
affirmations like, “I am an excellent speaker, well prepared, logical and
completely at ease before any group” to give himself a boost for public
speaking, and “I especially love, cherish and enjoy Bonnie” to maintain
a special and endearing attitude toward his wife.
Use affirmations to build your confidence, to help you accomplish goals
in your life, and to become the person you want to be. Every affirmation
is a reflection of your subconscious and inner truths and helps you
realize your goals. In order to succeed in business, it is important to be
confident and positive. Negative thinking will only hinder your growth.
