personally and my research findings did not reveal any book in which
he had outlined his strategies to demystify the tricky aspect of our common
trade.
Then an idea occurred to me, …write to him. Write to him? In this day
and age? I laughed incredulously as I gave myself a million-and-one
reasons why I dared not attempt it. He was a busy person; even if he
did get the letter he probably would not even respond. I did not have
his mailing address, why would he tell a complete stranger his success
secrets – he did not even live on the same continent as I did, what if he
turned out to be arrogant and pompous? On and on, I gave myself one
reason after another why I could not venture down this ridicule-ridden
path. However, one niggling reason why I should kept popping up,
“What if he does respond?” It would make a world of difference. It was
a quick decision, I would write him. I really had nothing to lose save
the fear of rejection. Since I did not have his mailing address, I turned
to what I did have, Facebook. He was on facebook and seemed to be
quite active there, whether he administered his facebook page himself
or if a member of his staff did it for him, I was not certain, but since that
was the only means of contact I had, I was going to use it.
However the question then became, what would I write? From reading
about him I had garnered that he was very successful and quite busy but
he was also young, very human and liked to have a good laugh. From
my own entrepreneurial experience, I also knew he would have loads
of people asking for his help. So I knew I needed to write something
that would capture his attention yet show him I did not intend to waste
his time or freeload, but that I was worth the investment of time and
was willing to learn. So I sent a cry to heaven for help, opened my laptop
and proceeded to write the most outrageous letter I had written to
anyone in my life, which I titled “Desperation in Action”.
Hi John,
My name is Mfon and I am a lawyer resident in the UK. The reason I
chose to write you is because I really want to get the kind of results you
are getting in (I gave him details about the areas I was struggling with),
but I don’t know how. So I said, “Why don’t I eat the humble pie and
ask John, he should know because he is involved in the same field and
