PUSHING TO THE FRONT
As children, our parents ensured that we had quality friends because
they knew we would be influenced by them. So, at what point do we
grow out of being impressionable? Never! Even as adults, we are who
we associate with.
In our commitment to conquering complacency, we can enhance our
motivation level through interaction with people who already have acquired
the things that we are in the hunt for. When we search for a
hand-up, NOT a hand-out, we position ourselves right on target to learn
as we grow. This first-hand experience enables repetition of productive
behaviors and avoidance of unproductive ones.
Finding a mentor begins with humbling ourselves to become a student
in our areas of interest. It’s been said, ‘when the student is ready…the
teacher will appear.’ In other words, when we are willing to admit that
we don’t know what we don’t know, we’ll be less intimidated by successful
people and more open-minded to gaining their wisdom.
Mentors are the greatest tools on our workbench as we build personal
success. A lot can be learned from their successes, and even more from
the mistakes they made during their own construction period. In the
same way that a sturdy structure stands on a solid foundation, we must
start from the base and use positive association for support as we create
our own skyscrapers.
5. initiate reSUltS
Does this sound like an oxymoron or what? As deemed by the Thesaurus,
to initiate is to start, begin or commence, while results is synonymous
with outcome, end and solution. That’s exactly the point! We
must start the outcome, begin the end and commence the solution.
In this case, the concept is the activity. To initiate is to be in control of
your own actions. Taking the initiative will guard you against being
robbed of your potential, because procrastination is the thief of productivity
and complacency is its ready accomplice.
Your security lies in depending on the only person passionate enough
to commit to engaging in your progress…you! There is more promise
