PUSHING TO THE FRONT
set for them. So if goals are so important, how do I convince my clients
to embrace the practice and commit to setting them?
Here is how I present my case:
Without a Vision and Goals, the employees of the company have no
idea what they are supposed to be doing and how they can align and
help the company succeed.
Over 23,000 employees were surveyed by Steven Covey and the results
of the survey concluded:
• Only 17% said they have a clear understanding of what their
organization is trying to achieve and why
• Only 20% were enthusiastic about their team’s and their
organization’s goals
• Only 20% said they had a “clear line of sight” between their
jobs and their team’s and organization’s goals
• Only 15% felt that their organization fully enables them to
execute key goal’s
• Only 20% fully trusted the organization they work for
Imagine a soccer team with those same stats:
• Only 2 of the 11 players on the field would know which goal
is theirs and how to score
• Only 2 of 11 would care
• Only 2 of 11 would know what position they play and what
they were supposed to do
• Only 2 would feel they had the coach’s ok to pass the ball
or kick it in the goal
• 9 players would be keeping the ball away from their own
team members
How could a company or team really succeed with that lack of alignment?
So, goals established and communicated consistently to your team will
make your business more successful simply by the fact that everyone
knows the road to follow, where they are going, what they can do to get
us there and that they are empowered to do it.
Actions tend to immediately flow from Goal setting. I’ve seen this time
