4.2.6 BENEFICIO SANTA BARBARA (LA MESETA) Este beneficio presenta las caracteristicas de toner instalacionespara secar el cafe'con electricidad (resistencias electricas) y do haber sido bien planificado y disefiado, quizas por haberse construido hace relati vamente poco tiewo (6 aics) la informaci6n fue suministrada por los se fiores Alvaro Campos'(Sta. Birbara) y Francisco Esquivel (San Pablo). El beneficio se clasifica como grande. El beneficio posee 2 presecadoras de 240 quintales y 3 secadoras de 120 quintales. En laFig.9 se observa la planta en conjunto y se aprecian los detalles de presecado y secado. a) RESISTENCIAS ELECTRICAS En este beneficio la electricidad (resistencias) sustituy6 al diesel (quemadores), sustituci6n que tiene como ventajas: i) control exacto de temperatura de secado, ii) calidad del grano se mantiene inalte- rable por ser una energla muy linpia, iii) el sistema ocupa poco es pacio. Las desventajas son: i) desconectan las resistencias duran te los picos (7 horas por dia en total) para evitar ser sancionados economicamente con la demanda maxima en horas pico. Esto ocasiona que, si se esta secando cafe en esos momentos, este empieza a "sudar" dentro de la unidad, por lo que al reanudarse el secado hay que eva porar esa humedad y el proceso se reinicia con un retraso importante de tiempo con respecto al momento que se detuvo, ademas de que se perjudica la calidad del mismo. Ej sistema emplea flujos de aire elevados en las secadoras vertica les y en las guardiolas, a las que hay que modificar para que perni tan la correcta evacuaci6n de todo ese aire hiimedo. Estos flujos y el control de temperatura permiten lograr tiempos de secado en ver ticales de hasta 16 horas, con una muy buena calidad do caf6, y on guardiolas de hasta 23 horas.
