to administer the requirement that imported goods be marked with a
foreign country of origin.
The FTC has jurisdiction over foreign origin claims on products and in
packaging that are beyond the disclosures required by Customs as well as
over foreign origin claims in advertising and other promotional materials.

would deceive or confuse consumers and can be opposed in certain
circumstances. The registration of references to Switzerland as company
or business names can be refused if they falsely indicate a connection to
the Swiss government or are otherwise misleading. False claims that
goods originate in or belong to a class of goods prioduced in Switzerland
can lead to civil liability and be restrained by injunction.

A mark which either consists of or comprises
the flag, coat of arms or other insignia of
Switzerland or which disparage, falsely
suggest a connection with, or bring into
contempt or disrepute any Swiss national
symbol will not be registrable under U.S.
trademark law.
Wilful use as a trade mark, commercial label,
or portion thereof, or as an advertisement or
insignia for any business or organization or
for any trade or commercial purpose, of the
coat of arms of the Swiss Confederation,
consisting of an upright white cross with
equal arms and lines on a red ground, is
punishable by fine or imprisonment for not
more than six months, or both.
The Swiss national flag and arms are
specifically protected from registration as
trade marks. Their use in other contexts is
restricted by law only if it creates a false and
misleading impression that a business or
product is associated with Switzerland.
