Zubli (1971), offers a unique opportunity to investigate the
possibility of transformation into a community of co-existence
with various species of the natural world. In this assignment
we challenged the students to transform the concrete
urban site into a biodiverse social condenser for Amsterdam.
1 Remove and re-use 50% of the volume of the parking
garage by cutting into the 70 m by 41 m rectangle block:
remove floors, make holes, et cetera.
2 Re-use the concrete that is removed on site, it is not
allowed to transport any material off site.
3 Use 100% biobased additional materials.
4 House 50% biomass of human + 50% biomass of animal
life. Design 300 dwellings for humans for 5 types of households
(families, students, young professionals, elderly, double
income) that live in new communal typologies together with
non-humans.
5 Give all living beings direct access from their homes to
a public park of minimal 6.000 m 2 .
6 Provide at least 1.500 m 2 public program on site —
culture, library, sports, restaurants, et cetera.
