Salk injections, but a high percentage of those
lacking antibodies to either or both Types 1 and 3
had previously received three or more Salkinjections.
In view of the manner in which this
sample was derived, the nature of the population
from which it was drawn, and the unavailability
of the as yet untabulated data on the
individuals with antibodies to all three types of
polioviruses, caution must be used in making
generalizations from these data. However, it
can be seen that, although the Type 2 component
of the Salk vaccine in general use was locally
antigenically potent, the Type 1, and especially
the Type 3 components, left much to be desired.
We are in accord with the consensus of
opinion that gross conversion from negative to
positive antibody status is indicated by a change
in titer from
