community. Six weeks after feeding live virus
to the above mentioned 43 persons, six of 149
other persons tested on the island excreted Type
1 poliovirus. One of these persons still excreted
virus 12 weeks after the introduction of the live

six persons serologic data are lacking. Two of
the remaining four were negative to Type 1
(Table 4).
A fourfold or greater increase in Type 1
antibodies during the period April 1958 to
March 1959, was seen in 66 of 158 persons
tested, or 42 per cent. These 66 persons repre-
