six months to three years, three to seven years
old, and in a small group over seven years of
age. In all, 215 samples of feces were collected.
The samples were collected before vaccination
and from three to four weeks after administration
of Type 1 virus. The same procedure was
used after the administration of Type 3 virus.
The results obtained are presented in Table 9.
Before vaccination, Type 1 virus was isolated
in 1.86% of the samples; no Type 2 or 3 virus
was isolated. In addition, a cytopathogenic
agent was isolated in 1.86 per cent of the cases.
After the vaccination of children with Type 1
virus, the virus was isolated from feces in 27.44
per cent; the corresponding figure for Type 3
virus was 21.1 per cent. The comparatively low
