TCP/UDP IP
Introduction to MIP Commands
MIP (Motorola IP) commands are a complete set of GPRS commands that allows the user to
create and manage a network connection using the module internal TCP/UDP IP stack. In order to
create a connection between the module and the Network, the user performs the following steps:
• PDP context activation (refer to “+MIPCALL, Create Network Call” on page 3-315).
PDP context activation is based on specific network service provider parameters, like APN
(Access Point Name), user name and password. When PDP context activation completes
successfully, a network connection is established and the user receives a valid IP from its
network service provider.
• Open a socket, based on internal TCP/UDP stack (refer to “+MIPOPEN, Open a Socket” on
page 3-318).
The user is able to open a TCP (active or listen) socket(s) the same as a UDP socket(s). A
remote side IP (or Host name) and port number will be used, when user opens an active
socket with the remote side.
• Manage an opened socket(s) as well as opened network connection.
The user is able to:
• Send data to the network through the socket (refer to “+MIPSEND, Add Data to Socket” on
page 3-327, “+MIPPUSH, Send a Socket Data to Network” on page 3-329 and “+MIPSETS,
Set Watermark and Timeout for Automatic Push” on page 3-325 commands).
• Receive data from the network through the socket (refer to “+MIPRTCP, Socket Network
Data Received by TCP Stack Unsolicited Indication” on page 3-339 and “+MIPRUDP,
Socket Network Data Received by UDP Stack Unsolicited Indication” on page 3-340
unsolicited indication).
• Receive flow control notifications (refer to “+MIPXON, Socket Flow ON Unsolicited
Indication” on page 3-339 and “+MIPXOFF, Socket Flow OFF Unsolicited Indication” on
page 3-338 unsolicited indications).
• Close the socket (refer to “+MIPCLOSE, Close a Socket” on page 3-323 command).
• Close the network connection (refer to “+MIPCALL, Create Network Call” on page 3-315
command).
