RS232 Multiplexer Feature MUX States Overview The MUX module has 3 states, MUX-NONE, MUX-WAIT and MUX-ACTIVE (see Figure 3-8). Figure 3-8: MUX States MUX-NONE State Regular RS232/UART communication when MUX is not established. Enter to state: • H24 powers up and opens UART1 related port. • MUX has been closed (see "MUX Close"). Exit from state: DTE sends AT+CMUX command for starting H24's MUX stack. MUX-WAIT State H24 is ready and waits for DTE to either start or close MUX session. Enter to state: H24 receives a valid AT+CMUX command and connectivity configuration is set to +MCONN=3 (UART1 only). Exit from state: • MUX has been closed (see "MUX Close"). • SABM0 frame is received. • Timeout after 10 sec H24 didn't receive a SABM0 frame (Transition to MUX-NONE). 3-372 H24 - AT Commands Reference Manual April 15, 2010
Chapter 3: AT Commands Reference MUX-ACTIVE State DTE and H24 are communicating with MUX protocol stack over the serial link. Enter to state: H24 receives the SABM0 Frame. Exit from state: MUX has been closed (See “MUX Close”). MUX Close When one of the following occurs, MUX session will be terminated. • Receiving CLD control command. • Receiving DISC command on DLCI 0. • Toggling DTR line, given AT&D is equal 4 in NON-MUX state Hardware interface The HW transport is over a UART. MUX can be supported with full RS232 HW line and also with 4 HW lines UART (RX, TX, CTS, and RTS) or two lines (RX, TX). After issuing AT+CMUX command: Character Framing & Flow Control will remain the same as in MUX-NONE. Baud rate will be determined by parameter in the command. If this parameter is absent, MUX will use the same baud rate that was in MUX-NONE state. MUX is supported only when connectivity is set to UART only (i.e. AT+MCONN=3). Modem Signals RI and DCD line are inactive during MUX session. DSR stays as in MUX_NONE. Toggling DTR line within MUX-ACTIVE or MUX-WAIT states, given AT&D is equal 4 in NON-MUX state, will close down MUX. (See “MUX Close”). If AT&D was not equal to 4 (in NON-MUX state) the DTR line will be ignored. UART Related AT Commands [+CBAUD, +IPR, +IFC, +ICF, &K] While in MUX session: Execution of these commands will be ignored (doesn't affect hardware configuration). If a set command was executed, read operation will return the value used, but if it was not executed, return value will be the value used before starting session.
