be<strong>in</strong>g based on states’ level. This could br<strong>in</strong>g additional discrim<strong>in</strong>ation to the results consider<strong>in</strong>g more specific<br />

and spatially-differentiated CFs.<br />

When <strong>in</strong>ventory data are available, it is shown that spatial differentiation <strong>in</strong>creases the discrim<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g<br />

power of <strong>LCA</strong>.<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ally, when consider<strong>in</strong>g the global environmental profile related to the US dairy production <strong>in</strong>dustry,<br />

possible trade-offs b<strong>et</strong>ween impact categories (land use, water use, climate change, <strong>et</strong>c.) may arise. In this<br />

respect this work provides valuable <strong>in</strong>sights to guide decision makers to identify priorities for action to reduce<br />

overall potential impacts related to milk production.<br />
