The French Agricultural <strong>LCA</strong> Platform has been created <strong>in</strong> 2009 under the imp<strong>et</strong>us of the French technological<br />

mixed n<strong>et</strong>work on Livestock and Environment (Réseaux Mixte Technologique Elevage <strong>et</strong> Environnement).<br />

This n<strong>et</strong>work gathers research, technical and education <strong>in</strong>stitutes and aims at diffus<strong>in</strong>g management<br />

tools for animal production systems to improve their environmental performances. This open <strong>LCA</strong> platform<br />

is gather<strong>in</strong>g among 40 Agricultural <strong>LCA</strong>-practitioners from different <strong>in</strong>stitutes (agricultural research <strong>in</strong>stitutes,<br />

agricultural technical <strong>in</strong>stitutes, agriculture council <strong>in</strong>stitutes, professional organisations). The platform<br />

purpose is shar<strong>in</strong>g collectively knowledge, data and m<strong>et</strong>hodological positions to manage <strong>LCA</strong> on agricultural<br />

products and systems, <strong>in</strong> tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to account French specificities of this sector. This <strong>in</strong>cludes actions to ensure<br />

common knowledge among the members by tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g organisation session and experiences shar<strong>in</strong>g, to<br />

mutualise material resources (Us<strong>in</strong>g Simapro Multiuser license) and to validate collectively m<strong>et</strong>hodological<br />

choices (organisation of workshops about allocations, references for imported products <strong>in</strong> particular concern<strong>in</strong>g<br />

land use, biodiversity and water impacts, and watch on <strong>in</strong>ternational <strong>in</strong>itiatives of mutualis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>LCA</strong> data).<br />

A specific action is to mutualise <strong>LCA</strong> and LCI data from 8 partners <strong>in</strong> a common database, and to work for<br />

the recognition of LCI data <strong>in</strong>to <strong>in</strong>ternational databases. This implies first collect<strong>in</strong>g data among partners,<br />

describ<strong>in</strong>g precisely the m<strong>et</strong>hodology that has been <strong>in</strong>volved, qualify<strong>in</strong>g data quality and assess<strong>in</strong>g their limits.<br />

This m<strong>et</strong>hodology will allow identify<strong>in</strong>g the best references for users’ purpose.
