mental criterion to be considered at the time of purchase. This transmission mode of <strong>in</strong>formation seems to be<br />

preferred by consumers as it has been acclaimed by 86% of them (Cas<strong>in</strong>o-IFOP, <strong>2012</strong>). On-pack labell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

would also appear to be the best transmission mode for each company to manage its <strong>in</strong>formation flows and<br />

be responsible for mak<strong>in</strong>g this available.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce results are presented as a percentage of the daily impact of food consumption by a French customer,<br />

people can truly draw a comparison b<strong>et</strong>ween their own <strong>in</strong>dividual impacts and that of the average consumer.<br />

Therefore, this <strong>in</strong>dicator makes it possible for people to choose their items depend<strong>in</strong>g on their desire to purchase<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>ably.<br />

The leaves of the label, as shown below, range from dark green to orange, so that consumers can at a<br />

glance identify the category of impact of the given product. The percentage then provides more d<strong>et</strong>ailed <strong>in</strong>formation.<br />

Extensive <strong>in</strong>formation is available on a dedicated website for customers <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g more about<br />

environmental labell<strong>in</strong>g. On “www.<strong>in</strong>dice-environnemental.fr”, all <strong>LCA</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation is made available (results<br />

for each <strong>in</strong>dicator and per life-cycle stage) as well as advice on recycl<strong>in</strong>g best practices. A web l<strong>in</strong>k is<br />

displayed on packag<strong>in</strong>g as well as a 2D barcode for Smartphone users, which is l<strong>in</strong>ked to the mobile version.
