4 LEAVEonly if the Director-General considers the granting <strong>of</strong> family <strong>and</strong> communityservice leave to be appropriate in a particular case.f) attendance as a competitor in major amateur sport (other than Olympic orCommonwealth Games) for staff members who are selected to representAustralia or the State; <strong>and</strong>g) absence during normal working hours to attend meetings, conferences orperform other duties for staff members holding <strong>of</strong>fice in Local Government, <strong>and</strong>whose duties necessitate absence during normal working hours for thesepurposes, provided that the staff member does not hold the position <strong>of</strong> Mayor <strong>of</strong>a Municipal Council, President <strong>of</strong> a Shire Council or Chairperson <strong>of</strong> a CountyCouncil.4.6.2.3 Family <strong>and</strong> community service leave is not available to short term temporary orcasual staff members.4.6.3 FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICE LEAVE – ENTITLEMENT4.6.3.1 The maximum amount <strong>of</strong> family <strong>and</strong> community service leave on full pay that may begranted to a permanent or long term temporary staff member is:a) 2½ working days during the first year <strong>of</strong> service <strong>and</strong> five working days in anyperiod <strong>of</strong> two years after the first year <strong>of</strong> service; orb) one working day for each year <strong>of</strong> service after two years continuous service,minus any period <strong>of</strong> family <strong>and</strong> community service leave already taken by thestaff member,whichever is the greater period. Entitlements accrue on a rolling calendar year basis.4.6.3.2 Where family <strong>and</strong> community service leave has been exhausted as a result <strong>of</strong>declared natural disasters, the Director-General shall consider applications foradditional family <strong>and</strong> community service leave if some other declared naturaldisaster occurs.4.6.3.3 Additional paid family <strong>and</strong> community service leave <strong>of</strong> up to two days may be grantedon a discrete, "per occasion" basis on the death <strong>of</strong> a person as defined in Section4.5.1 above if available family <strong>and</strong> community service leave is exhausted.4.6.3.4 Family <strong>and</strong> community service leave is available to part time permanent or long termtemporary staff members on a pro rata basis.4.6.4 USE OF SICK LEAVE TO CARE FOR SICK DEPENDANT – GENERALWhen family <strong>and</strong> community service leave, as outlined in Section 4.6.3 above, is exhausted, thesick leave provisions under Section 4.6.5 may be used by a permanent or long term temporarystaff member to care for a sick dependant.4.6.5 USE OF SICK LEAVE TO CARE FOR SICK DEPENDANT – ENTITLEMENT4.6.5.1 The entitlement to use sick leave in accordance with this section is subject to:a) the staff member being responsible for the care <strong>and</strong> support <strong>of</strong> the personconcerned; <strong>and</strong>H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 34
