2 SUPPORT SERVICES• referral <strong>of</strong> staff to the Employee Assistance Program when necessary.When required, a representative from the regional OHS team is available to visit schools to meetwith staff as well as respond to calls from staff members <strong>and</strong> provide assistance where possible.A list <strong>of</strong> contact numbers for regional OHS staff is included in Chapter 10, Appendices <strong>and</strong> isprovided on the <strong>Department</strong>’s OHS website. The site can be accessed through the Intranet, byclicking on the Occupational Health <strong>and</strong> Safety link under the A-Z <strong>of</strong> Directorates, or by going tothe following address:https://detwww.det.nsw.edu.au/admin<strong>and</strong>manage/oh<strong>and</strong>s/support/index.htm2.2 EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMThe Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a voluntary, confidential <strong>and</strong> free counselling serviceprovided by the <strong>Department</strong> to assist eligible staff experiencing work related <strong>and</strong> personalproblems.These problems may include relationship difficulties, work-related problems, substance abuse,financial <strong>and</strong> gambling difficulties, child <strong>and</strong> family issues, personal <strong>and</strong> work-related trauma, grief<strong>and</strong> bereavement, harassment <strong>and</strong> discrimination <strong>and</strong> emotional problems.2.2.1. SERVICES AVAILABLE UNDER THE EAPServices available under the EAP include:• individual face-to-face or telephone counselling;• group counselling;• trauma counselling;• mediation;• 24 hour crisis service;• consultation <strong>and</strong> advice services for workplace managers dealing with difficult situations in theworkplace; <strong>and</strong>• home or work visits if appropriate.2.2.2 ELIGIBILITY FOR THE EAPThose staff eligible for counselling include: staff employed in schools, regional <strong>of</strong>fices, state <strong>of</strong>fices<strong>and</strong> AMES who are permanent <strong>and</strong> temporary employees. Permanent <strong>and</strong> temporary teachers whoare engaged full time for four weeks or more or in one engagement for one to four days per weekfor two terms or more are eligible as well.To validate your eligibility for the EAP staff will be required to provide their employee ID number atthe time <strong>of</strong> enquiry <strong>and</strong> booking.2.2.3 ACCESS TO THE EAPH<strong>and</strong>book for Non Teaching Staff in Schools (August 2008) Page 3 <strong>of</strong> 4
