9 SUPERANNUATIONparental or study leave without pay).Pillar must be advised in writing if the member elects to take a reduction in their unit entitlement.If the member does not elect to take a reduction in their unit entitlement:• he or she continues to pay full contributions <strong>and</strong> their benefit entitlements in the schemewill be unaffected.• the full-time equivalent <strong>of</strong> their part-time leave without pay has the same effect as fulltimeleave without pay, on requirements to pay employer contributions. Refer to Sections9.4.5.1, 9.4.5.2, 9.4.5.3 <strong>and</strong> 9.4.5.4.9.4.7 SSS CONTRIBUTIONS FOR MEMBERS ON CHANGED WORK ARRANGEMENTSIf a member changes from full-time to part-time, from part-time to full-time or changes the parttimehours worked, Pillar must be advised before the work arrangements are changed (theChange in Contributor's Basis <strong>of</strong> Employment Form is used).If the change is from full-time to part-time work, contributions paid before the change are allocatedto purchase fully-paid units in the Scheme <strong>and</strong> a new reduced unit entitlement is determined (thisapplies for the whole <strong>of</strong> the contributor’s period <strong>of</strong> membership <strong>of</strong> the Scheme).9.4.8 SSS CONTRIBUTIONS FOR MEMBERS ON TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS OR HIGHERDUTIES IN THE DEPARTMENTIf the member is on a temporary appointment, as a result <strong>of</strong> competitive selection for anadvertised position, which is to be continuous for at least one year, the higher salary can beadvised to Pillar for the annual salary review. If a temporary appointment or period <strong>of</strong> higher duties(at the full rate) <strong>of</strong> less than one year is extended, the higher salary can be advised to Pillar for theannual salary review after the member has completed one continuous year at the higher rate.9.4.9 LEAVING THE DEPARTMENT9.4.9.1 Transfer or ResignationIf a member transfers permanently to a position within the Public Service (as defined inSchedule 1 <strong>of</strong> the Public Sector Employment <strong>and</strong> Management Act 2002) SSSmembership continues (Pillar is advised).A member who accepts a permanent position within the public sector, which is not in thePublic Service (as defined in Schedule 1 <strong>of</strong> the Public Sector Employment <strong>and</strong>Management Act 2002), must resign from the <strong>Department</strong>. However, SSS membershipcan continue if the member resumes <strong>employment</strong> with another participating employer tothe fund, for example TAFE NSW.A former contributor can apply to retain membership in the Scheme where the break inservice is less than three calendar months, application for payment <strong>of</strong> benefits has notbeen made, <strong>and</strong> an election to re-enter the Scheme is made within three months <strong>of</strong> re<strong>employment</strong>.9.4.9.2 Early Voluntary RetirementProvided they have been a contributor to the Fund continuously for the previous tenH<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools Page 9 − 10
