4 LEAVEdelegate is accounted for <strong>and</strong> any facilities provided by the <strong>Department</strong> are usedreasonably <strong>and</strong> properly; <strong>and</strong>g) advising the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> any leave taken by the trade union delegate duringthe on loan arrangement.4.15.2.10 Responsibilities <strong>of</strong> Workplace ManagementWhen time is required for union activities in accordance with this Section theresponsibilities <strong>of</strong> the workplace management are:a) to release the accredited delegate from duty for the duration <strong>of</strong> the union activity,as appropriate, <strong>and</strong>, if necessary, to allow for sufficient travelling time during theordinary working hours;b) to advise the workplace delegate <strong>of</strong> the date <strong>of</strong> the next induction session fornew staff members in sufficient time to enable the trade union to arrangerepresentation at the session;c) to meet the travel <strong>and</strong> accommodation costs properly <strong>and</strong> reasonably incurred inrespect <strong>of</strong> meetings called by the workplace management;d) if possible, to provide relief in the position occupied by the delegate in theworkplace while the delegate is undertaking union responsibilities related toworkplace management;e) to recredit any other leave applied for on the day to which special leave orrelease from duty subsequently applies;f) to apply the provisions <strong>of</strong> the paragraph above when a union activity under thisclause coincides with the trade union delegate’s rostered day <strong>of</strong>f (if applicable);g) to continue to pay salary during an on loan arrangement negotiated with therelevant union <strong>and</strong> to obtain reimbursement <strong>of</strong> salary <strong>and</strong> on-costs from theunion at regular intervals, or as otherwise agreed between the parties if longterm arrangements apply;h) to verify with the union the time spent by a union delegate or delegates on unionbusiness, if required; <strong>and</strong>i) if the time or the facilities allowed for union activities are thought to be usedunreasonably or improperly, to consult with the trade union before taking anyremedial action.4.15.2.11 Travelling <strong>and</strong> Other CostsExcept as specified in 4.15.2.10 Responsibilities <strong>of</strong> Workplace Management, alltravel <strong>and</strong> other costs incurred by accredited union delegates in the course <strong>of</strong> tradeunion activities must be paid by their union.No overtime, leave in lieu, shift penalties or any other additional costs are claimablein respect <strong>of</strong> union activities covered by special leave or on duty activities providedfor in this Section.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 83
