1 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT1.3.1.4 Temporary Staff Permanently Appointed Without a Break in ServiceTemporary school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff who are permanently appointed to anon promotional position without a break in service shall:a) receive the equivalent permanent incremental rate <strong>of</strong> pay they received immediatelyprior to their permanent appointment; <strong>and</strong>b) for the purposes <strong>of</strong> incremental progression, retain their existing increment date.1.3.2 RECOGNITION OF PREVIOUS SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPORT STAFF SERVICEFOR LEAVE PURPOSES1.3.2.1 GeneralA school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member who wishes to have previous servicerecognised for leave purposes is required to submit a written request to EmployeeServices Bathurst. This request should provide full details <strong>of</strong> the prior service, includingdates <strong>of</strong> service <strong>and</strong> classifications.1.3.2.2 Extended/Long Service Leavea) Information concerning recognition <strong>of</strong> service with other state or Commonwealthgovernment bodies for extended/long service leave purposes is contained in Section4.4.10 <strong>of</strong> this H<strong>and</strong>book.b) All prior full time <strong>and</strong> part time service as a permanent school administrative <strong>and</strong>support staff member under the <strong>Education</strong> (School Administrative <strong>and</strong> Support Staff)Act 1987 shall be taken into account for extended/long serve leave purposes.c) Prior service as a long term temporary school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staffmember (full time or part time) with the <strong>Department</strong> is credited on the following basis:i) service needs to be greater than one term (10 weeks);ii)if hours per week vary, they are averaged for the period <strong>of</strong> service; <strong>and</strong>1.3.2.3 Sick Leaveiii) a break <strong>of</strong> two weeks (not including vacation periods) interrupts the period <strong>and</strong>the 10 weeks criterion re-starts on any return to duty.a) For the purpose <strong>of</strong> calculating the sick leave entitlement <strong>of</strong> a school administrative<strong>and</strong> support staff member, service shall include:i) all prior permanent <strong>employment</strong> under the <strong>Education</strong> (School Administrative <strong>and</strong>Support Staff) Act 1987;ii) all prior full time or part time service as a temporary school administrative <strong>and</strong>support staff member under the <strong>Education</strong> (School Administrative <strong>and</strong> SupportStaff) Act 1987 or the Public Service Acts <strong>of</strong> 1902 <strong>and</strong> 1979 or the Public SectorManagement Act 1996 or the Public Sector Employment <strong>and</strong> Management Act2002 provided the service is for a period(s) <strong>of</strong> greater than one term (10 weeks).H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools January 2009 Page 1 - 25
