4 LEAVEhas been granted to a staff members aide (special) or a staff members aide (pre-school) orto a school administrative manager or a school administrative <strong>of</strong>ficer employed in a P5 or P6school. The cost <strong>of</strong> this relief will be reimbursed by the <strong>Department</strong> upon receipt <strong>of</strong> evidencethat casual assistance was employed by the school to provide relief for the SAS staffmember granted study assistance.4.13.5 COMPETITIVE AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPSSAS staff who, in the <strong>Department</strong>’s opinion, are awarded competitive scholarships or awards<strong>and</strong> where the areas <strong>of</strong> study or investigation are recognised as being relevant to thepr<strong>of</strong>essional development <strong>of</strong> the SAS staff <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> value to the <strong>Department</strong> may be grantedstudy assistance on normal salary for the period <strong>of</strong> the award or scholarship.4.13.6 EXAMINATION LEAVE4.13.6.1 Special leaveExamination leave may be granted by the <strong>Department</strong> as special leave. It isavailable for either face to face or distance courses.4.13.6.2 EntitlementThe period <strong>of</strong> leave granted is to include:a) time actually involved in the examination; <strong>and</strong>b) necessary travel time;but is limited toc) a maximum <strong>of</strong> five days in any one year.Examination leave is not available where an examination is concluded within thenormal class timetable during the term/semester, <strong>and</strong> study assistance has beengranted to the SAS staff member.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 72
