4 LEAVEhas been granted to a staff members aide (special) or a staff members aide (pre-school) orto a school administrative manager or a school administrative officer employed in a P5 or P6school. The cost of this relief will be reimbursed by the Department upon receipt of evidencethat casual assistance was employed by the school to provide relief for the SAS staffmember granted study assistance.4.13.5 COMPETITIVE AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPSSAS staff who, in the Department’s opinion, are awarded competitive scholarships or awardsand where the areas of study or investigation are recognised as being relevant to theprofessional development of the SAS staff and of value to the Department may be grantedstudy assistance on normal salary for the period of the award or scholarship.4.13.6 EXAMINATION LEAVE4.13.6.1 Special leaveExamination leave may be granted by the Department as special leave. It isavailable for either face to face or distance courses.4.13.6.2 EntitlementThe period of leave granted is to include:a) time actually involved in the examination; andb) necessary travel time;but is limited toc) a maximum of five days in any one year.Examination leave is not available where an examination is concluded within thenormal class timetable during the term/semester, and study assistance has beengranted to the SAS staff member.Handbook for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 72
