4 LEAVE4.9 RECREATION LEAVE4.9.1 RECREATION LEAVE – GENERAL4.9.1.1 Full time permanent <strong>and</strong> full time long term temporary <strong>general</strong> assistants <strong>and</strong> farmassistants are entitled to four weeks recreation leave (five weeks central <strong>and</strong> westerndivisions) per annum which can be taken at times suitable to the school <strong>and</strong> the staffmember. Recreation leave accrued <strong>and</strong> not taken may accumulate up to a maximum<strong>of</strong> 40 days (regardless <strong>of</strong> which division the staff member is employed in).4.9.1.2 Part time permanent <strong>and</strong> part time long term temporary staff members are entitled torecreation leave on a pro rata basis.4.9.1.3 All employees must take at least 2 weeks recreation leave every 12 months forrecreation purposes, except by agreement with the Director-General in specialcircumstances. After taking into account the wishes <strong>of</strong> the employee, the Director-General may direct an employee to take accrued recreation leave at a timeconvenient to the <strong>Department</strong>. If operational requirements permit, an application forleave must be dealt with by the Director-General according to the wishes <strong>of</strong> theemployee.4.9.1.4 Employee Services Bathurst will notify the staff member in writing when accruedrecreation leave reaches six weeks or its hourly equivalent, <strong>and</strong> at the same timedirect the staff member to take at least two weeks recreation leave within threemonths <strong>of</strong> the notification at a time convenient to the <strong>Department</strong>. Additionally,Employee Services Bathurst will notify the staff member in writing when accruedrecreation leave reaches eight weeks or its hourly equivalent <strong>and</strong> direct the staffmember to take at least two weeks recreation leave within six weeks <strong>of</strong> thenotification. Such leave is to be taken at a time convenient to the <strong>Department</strong>.4.9.1.5 Permanent school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff are entitled to recreation leave.However, they do not receive a separate recreation leave entitlement but an overallvacation pay entitlement which incorporates recreation leave, st<strong>and</strong> down pay <strong>and</strong>public holidays during school vacations. See also Section 4.16 Vacation Leave.4.9.1.6 Long term temporary school <strong>and</strong> administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff are entitled to fourweeks recreation leave (five weeks central <strong>and</strong> western divisions) per annum whichis paid during the initial four weeks (five weeks central <strong>and</strong> western divisions) <strong>of</strong> theChristmas school holidays excluding public holidays. Long term temporary part time<strong>general</strong> assistants, who do not work during school vacations, receive pro ratarecreation leave entitlements paid on the same basis.4.9.1.7 Short term temporary staff receive a loaded rate <strong>of</strong> pay in lieu <strong>of</strong> a recreation leaveentitlement.4.9.2 RECREATION LEAVE ACCRUAL WHILE ON OTHER FORMS OF LEAVE4.9.2.1 GeneralRecreation leave shall not accrue to a staff member in respect <strong>of</strong> any period <strong>of</strong> leavewithout pay or unauthorised absence, except as outlined in Section 4.9.2.3.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 44
