1 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT1.7.3.2 Payment <strong>of</strong> Meal AllowancesWhen a school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member is required to travel on <strong>of</strong>ficialbusiness but is not required to stay overnight away from their normal residence, the staffmember may be entitled to meal allowances:a) for breakfast when required to commence travel at or before 6.00 am <strong>and</strong> at leastone hour before the prescribed starting time;b) for an evening meal when required to work or travel until or beyond 6.30 pm; <strong>and</strong>c) for lunch when the staff member is required to travel a total distance on the day <strong>of</strong> atleast 100 kilometres <strong>and</strong>, as a result, is located at least 50 kilometres from the staffmember's normal work location at the normal lunch time.See Chapter 7, Rates <strong>of</strong> Pay <strong>and</strong> Allowances for current meal allowance rates.1.7.3.3 Adjustment <strong>of</strong> AllowancesWhere the meal allowances under Section 1.7.3.2 are insufficient to reimburse the staffmember for expenses incurred, a further allowance may be paid to reimburse the staffmember for the additional expenses incurred. Payment <strong>of</strong> any additional allowanceunder this Section is subject to the provision <strong>of</strong> receipts, unless the Director-General isprepared to accept other evidence from the staff member.1.7.4 COMPENSATION FOR TRAVEL INVOLVING AN OVERNIGHT STAY1.7.4.1 GeneralIn addition to compensation for excess travel time <strong>and</strong> waiting time, a schooladministrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member may also be entitled to claim meal <strong>and</strong>accommodation allowances when required to perform duties at a location other than theirnormal place <strong>of</strong> work.1.7.4.2 Allowances Where Accommodation is Not Provided by the <strong>Department</strong>When a school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member is required to travel on <strong>of</strong>ficialbusiness <strong>and</strong> reside away from their normal residence, the staff member will be entitledto the following allowances where accommodation is not provided by the <strong>Department</strong>.a) Specific allowances are available for the first 35 calendar days in:i) capital cities; <strong>and</strong>ii)high cost country centres;iii) tier two country centres; <strong>and</strong>iv) other country centres.Only absences <strong>of</strong> 24 hours which involve an overnight stay qualify for payment <strong>of</strong> thisallowance. Payment <strong>of</strong> this rate may also be made if staff satisfy the Director-General that, despite the period being less than 24 hours, expenditure foraccommodation <strong>and</strong> three meals has been incurred.
