4 LEAVE4.2.4 MATERNITY LEAVE4.2.4.1 Entitlement <strong>and</strong> Paymenta) The paid <strong>and</strong>/or unpaid maternity leave entitlements <strong>of</strong> eligible staffmembers are outlined in the table below:Staff category Entitlements Service requirements foreligibilityAll permanent <strong>and</strong> long termtemporary staff memberswho are pregnant.Basic entitlementUnpaid maternity leave – Aperiod <strong>of</strong> up to nine weeks priorto the anticipated date <strong>of</strong> birth<strong>and</strong> a further period <strong>of</strong> up to 52weeks leave from the actual date<strong>of</strong> birth. May be taken as full time<strong>and</strong> or part time leave providingthe total amount <strong>of</strong> leavefollowing the birth does notexceed the equivalent <strong>of</strong> 12months full time leave.No service requirement.Long term temporary staffmembers may only accesspaid maternity leave within aperiod <strong>of</strong> a temporaryengagement.All permanent staff memberswho have been grantedmaternity leave.All long term temporary staffmembers who have beengranted maternity leave mayonly access the additionaloptions within a period <strong>of</strong>temporary engagement.Paid maternity leave – 14weeks full pay or 28 weeks halfpay or one combination <strong>of</strong> full<strong>and</strong> half pay. May be paid in alump sum or in normal fortnightlypay. May be taken no more than9 weeks prior to the anticipateddate <strong>of</strong> birth <strong>and</strong> any residualmay be taken after the actualdate <strong>of</strong> birth.Additional entitlementsRight to request additionaloptions: Extend the period <strong>of</strong>unpaid maternity leavefor an additional periodnot exceeding 12months;Return from a period <strong>of</strong>maternity leave on a parttime basis until the childreaches school age.At least 40 weeks’ continuousservice prior to the anticipateddate <strong>of</strong> birth.No service requirement.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 7
