RATES OF PAY AND ALLOWANCESGrade C allowancesPayable to staff members stationed <strong>and</strong>resident at the following locations:Fort Grey, Mutawintji, Mount Wood,Nocoleche, Olive Downs, Tibooburra <strong>and</strong>Yathong.DependantA "dependant" means, in relation to a staff member:• the spouse <strong>of</strong> the staff member (including a de facto spouse);• each child <strong>of</strong> the staff member <strong>of</strong> or below the age <strong>of</strong> eighteen years;• each child <strong>of</strong> the staff member above the age <strong>of</strong> eighteen years <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> orbelow the age <strong>of</strong> twenty-five years whilst such child remains a student in fulltime education or training at a recognised educational institution or as anindentured apprentice; <strong>and</strong>• any other person who is part <strong>of</strong> the staff member's household <strong>and</strong> who is, inthe opinion <strong>of</strong> the Director-General, substantially financially dependant on thestaff member.Criteria for Dependant Allowance RateTo be eligible for the allowance at the dependant rate a staff member mustsatisfy the following criteria:• the staff member must have a dependant as defined; <strong>and</strong>• the staff member's dependants must reside within the area that attracts theremote area allowance; <strong>and</strong>• the staff member's spouse, if also employed in the Service <strong>of</strong> the Crown,must not be in receipt <strong>of</strong> an allowance under this section, except where eachspouse resides at separate locations within the remote area.Military Leave <strong>and</strong> Retention <strong>of</strong> Remote Areas AllowanceStaff members in receipt <strong>of</strong> the remote areas allowance at the dependant ratemay, if on military leave, continue in receipt <strong>of</strong> the allowance at that rate for theduration <strong>of</strong> the military leave provided:• the dependants continue to reside in the area specified <strong>and</strong> the staff membercontinues in the <strong>employment</strong>; <strong>and</strong>• the staff member's military pay does not exceed <strong>Department</strong>al salary plusremote areas allowance.Variation or Non Retention <strong>of</strong> AllowanceWhere the military salary exceeds <strong>Department</strong>al salary plus allowance, the nondependant rate may be payable.
