1 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT1.5 HIGHER DUTIES ALLOWANCE1.5.1 GENERAL1.5.1.1 No Reduction in Rate <strong>of</strong> PayA school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member relieving in another position shall not,because <strong>of</strong> relieving in that position, suffer any reduction in their rate <strong>of</strong> pay.1.5.1.2 Whole <strong>of</strong> Duties <strong>and</strong> ResponsibilitiesAny school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member, who, during a period <strong>of</strong> relief inanother position, satisfactorily performs the whole <strong>of</strong> the duties <strong>and</strong> assumes the whole <strong>of</strong>the responsibilities <strong>of</strong> that position, shall be entitled to payment <strong>of</strong> a higher dutiesallowance subject to the limitations contained in Section 1.5.2.The higher duties allowance paid will be the difference between the school administrative<strong>and</strong> support staff member’s present rate <strong>of</strong> pay <strong>and</strong> the rate <strong>of</strong> pay to which they wouldhave been entitled if appointed to that position.1.5.1.3 Part <strong>of</strong> Duties <strong>and</strong> ResponsibilitiesWhere a school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member does not assume the whole <strong>of</strong>the duties <strong>and</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the position, the amount <strong>of</strong> any allowance paid shall bedetermined in accordance with Section 1.5.6.2.1.5.2 LIMITATIONS ON ELIGIBILITY1.5.2.1 Periods <strong>of</strong> Less than Five DaysNo allowance is payable where relief is for a period <strong>of</strong> less than five consecutive workingdays except:a) with the approval <strong>of</strong> the Director-General; orb) as provided for in Sections 1.5.2.2.1 <strong>and</strong> 1.5.2.2.2.1.5.2.2 School Administrative <strong>and</strong> Support Staff Members Providing Part Time ReliefSchool administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff members providing part time relief are eligible forpayment <strong>of</strong> a higher duties allowance where the part time equivalent <strong>of</strong> five completeworking days is undertaken in the higher graded position.An allowance shall be paid calculated on a pro rata basis based on the average number<strong>of</strong> hours worked per week divided by the full time equivalent hours.1.5.2.2.1 Full Time Staff Member Relieving in a Part Time PositionA full time staff member who relieves in a part time position is eligible to bepaid a higher duties allowance for the authorised hours worked in the parttime position. For example, a full time school administrative <strong>and</strong> supportstaff member who relieves in a part time position where the hours are 15 perweek is entitled to payment <strong>of</strong> a higher duties allowance when they havecompleted the maximum weekly hours (i.e. 15) for that position.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools January 2009 Page 1 - 33
