4 LEAVE4.14.5 STUDY LEAVE4.14.5.1 GrantStudy leave for full time study is granted to assist staff who winscholarships/fellowships/awards or who wish to undertake full time study <strong>and</strong>/orstudy tours. Study leave may be granted for studies at any level, includingundergraduate study.4.14.5.2 EligibilityAll permanent staff, both full time <strong>and</strong> part time, <strong>and</strong> full time temporary staff,employed under the Public Sector Employment <strong>and</strong> Management Act 2002 (i.e.<strong>general</strong> assistants, farm assistants) are eligible to apply. There are no prior servicerequirements.4.14.5.3 Power to Grant or RefuseThe Director-General has the power to grant, <strong>and</strong> to refuse, study leave. The grant<strong>of</strong> study leave is entirely at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>and</strong> is dependent on:a) the availability <strong>of</strong> <strong>Department</strong>al funds;b) the relevance <strong>and</strong> value <strong>of</strong> the studies to the <strong>Department</strong> or Service.Further information on study leave is included in Section 6-20 – Study Leave <strong>of</strong> thePersonnel H<strong>and</strong>book.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 78
