4 LEAVE4.9.2.2 Extended Leavea) Recreation leave accrues in full during periods <strong>of</strong> extended leave on full pay, <strong>and</strong>at half the normal rate during periods <strong>of</strong> extended leave on half pay.b) Recreation leave does NOT accrue when extended leave is paid in a lump sumin lieu <strong>of</strong> leave actually being taken prior to resignation, retirement or termination<strong>of</strong> services.4.9.2.3 Leave Without PayRecreation leave does NOT accrue during periods <strong>of</strong> leave without pay except whentaken for:a) part time service with the Defence Forces;b) absences due to a transport strike, i.e. major interruption to public transport;c) any continuous period <strong>of</strong> sick leave;d) incapacity for which compensation has been authorised to be paid under theWorkers Compensation Act 1987; ore) periods which, when aggregated, do not exceed five working days in any period<strong>of</strong> twelve months.4.9.2.4 Deduction in Respect <strong>of</strong> Leave Without Pay4.9.3 PAYMENT FOR LEAVEDeductions in respect <strong>of</strong> leave without pay should be made from recreation leaveaccruals once each year. Leave without pay taken in the twelve month period is tobe totalled <strong>and</strong> rounded <strong>of</strong>f to the nearest lowest quarter day before those deductionsare calculated.Payment for recreation leave accrued is to be made at the substantive rate <strong>of</strong> pay applicable onthe day immediately prior to the first day <strong>of</strong> the leave. Where an increase in the rate <strong>of</strong> payoccurs during the period <strong>of</strong> leave, adjustment to the payment made in respect <strong>of</strong> the leave shallbe made as soon as practicable.4.9.4 CESSATION OF EMPLOYMENT4.9.4.1 Entitlements to be Calculated to the Next Highest Quarter DayRecreation leave for which a staff member is eligible on cessation <strong>of</strong> <strong>employment</strong>,including death, shall be calculated to an exact quarter day, or multiple there<strong>of</strong>.Fractions <strong>of</strong> less than a quarter day are to be taken to the next highest quarter day.4.9.4.2 Payment <strong>of</strong> Accrued Leave – OptionsA staff member whose services are not under adverse notice for any reason <strong>and</strong> whoceases <strong>employment</strong>, may exercise one <strong>of</strong> the following options in regard to accruedrecreation leave.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 45
