1 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT1.6 WORK PERFORMED OUTSIDE NORMAL HOURS OF DUTYWork performed by school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff members outside <strong>of</strong> their normal hours <strong>of</strong>duty will <strong>general</strong>ly fall into one <strong>of</strong> the following three categories:a) additional hours;b) overtime; <strong>and</strong>c) duties performed during school vacation periods.The <strong>conditions</strong> that apply to payment for work performed under each <strong>of</strong> these categories aredetailed in the following sub-sections.Aboriginal education <strong>of</strong>ficers are not entitled to payment for additional hours, overtime or for workperformed during school vacation periods where performing work associated with the duties <strong>of</strong> theirposition. The rates <strong>of</strong> pay for Aboriginal education <strong>of</strong>ficers are loaded with an “all incidents <strong>of</strong><strong>employment</strong>” allowance.1.6.1 ADDITIONAL HOURS1.6.1.1 GeneralSchool administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff members, other than Aboriginal education<strong>of</strong>ficers, who are required by the <strong>Department</strong> to perform additional hours above theirnormal hours <strong>of</strong> duty are entitled to receive additional remuneration for the workperformed. For <strong>conditions</strong> regarding directed work performed after seven hours <strong>of</strong> duty oron weekends or public holidays please see section 1.6.2 Overtime.Additional hours are subject to the hours averaging provisions <strong>of</strong> subclause 7.4 <strong>of</strong> theCrown Employees (School Administrative <strong>and</strong> Support Staff) Award <strong>and</strong> do not apply t<strong>of</strong>ormer clerical assistants (library) who are required to work 7 hours 15 minutes per day.Additional hours for a full time permanent or temporary school administrative <strong>and</strong> supportstaff member may be paid as follows:• where school administrative managers are required to work beyond 6 hours 40minutes in any one school day up to a maximum <strong>of</strong> seven hours;• where all other school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff are required to work beyond 6hours 15 minutes in any one school day up to a maximum <strong>of</strong> seven hours.Additional hours for a part time permanent or temporary school administrative <strong>and</strong>support staff member may be paid where the person is required to work beyond theirnormal hours <strong>of</strong> duty for the school day concerned, e.g. a school administrative <strong>and</strong>support staff member who works three hours per day, five days per week would beentitled to payment for additional hours where required to work for more than three hoursin any one day up to a maximum <strong>of</strong> seven hours.1.6.1.2 Conditions for Payment <strong>of</strong> Additional HoursSchool administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff are entitled to be paid for additional hours subjectto the additional hours being performed at the express direction <strong>of</strong> the principal ordelegate.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools January 2009 Page 1 - 37
