4 LEAVEwhich abut the recreation leave period, the resume the remainder <strong>of</strong> the 14weeks paid adoption or maternity leave (adoption or maternity leave will besplit around recreation leave as it is fixed for SAS staff: <strong>and</strong>- SAS staff whose maternity leave abuts other vacation periods willcontinue their adoption or maternity leave across the vacation.b) A staff member who has a subsequent pregnancy <strong>and</strong> who has:- completed 40 weeks <strong>of</strong> continuous service; <strong>and</strong>- taken no more than the basic entitlement <strong>of</strong> 12 months full time or itsequivalent (to a maximum <strong>of</strong> 24 months) part time adoption, maternityor parental leave,is entitled to be paid at 1.058 times their normal rate (ie the rate at which theywere paid before proceeding on leave) for another period <strong>of</strong> such leaveregardless <strong>of</strong> whether they resume their normal hours <strong>of</strong> work beforeproceeding on leave again.This does not require the staff member to complete a further period <strong>of</strong> 40weeks continuous service.c) Where a permanent staff member is on part time leave without pay or theadditional part time adoption, maternity or parental leave granted undersection 4.2.6.3 <strong>and</strong> becomes eligible for paid adoption, maternity or parentalleave, payment is determined as follows:i) where the staff member has taken 40 weeks or less part time leavethey will be entitled to receive adoption, maternity or parental leave at1.058 times their substantive rate <strong>of</strong> pay.ii)where the staff member has taken more than 40 weeks part timeleave they will be entitled to receive adoption, maternity or parentalleave at 1.058 times their part time rate <strong>of</strong> pay.4.2.6.5 Accessing other forms <strong>of</strong> leavea) Eligible staff members may combine adoption, maternity or parental leavewith extended leave, (see section 4.5) For example, an eligible full time staffmember may take half pay maternity leave concurrent with extended leave inorder to receive full pay.b) Staff members may not access other forms <strong>of</strong> full time leave during adoption,maternity or parental leave.c) See also Sections 4.2.4.4 (Miscarriage), 4.2.4.5 (Stillbirth), 4.2.4.6 (PrematureBirth) <strong>and</strong> 4.2.4.8 (Other Leave in Conjunction with Maternity Leave).4.2.6.6 Calculation <strong>of</strong> increments <strong>and</strong> leave creditsa) IncrementsAny period <strong>of</strong> paid adoption, maternity <strong>and</strong> parental leave (full or half pay) shallcount as full service for the purpose <strong>of</strong> determining incremental progression.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2007 Page 4 - 15
