RATES OF PAY AND ALLOWANCES7.2.2 GENERAL ASSISTANTS - ALLOWANCESThe following allowances relate specifically to <strong>general</strong> assistants. For other allowances to which<strong>general</strong> assistants, as well as other non teaching staff in schools may be entitled, see Section7.2.3.7.2.2.1 On Call (St<strong>and</strong>by) AllowanceWhen a staff member is directed to be on call or on st<strong>and</strong>by for a possible recall to duty,payment <strong>of</strong> an on call allowance shall be made.To locate this allowance within IRC 06/20 go to the DET salaries <strong>and</strong> allowanceslink, then to the rate sheets titled On Call Allowance.Alternatively, staff without access to a computer can contact the IndustrialRelations Directorate on (02) 9561 8780.7.2.2.2 Recall to Dutya) A staff member recalled to work overtime after leaving the employer’s premisesshall be paid for a minimum <strong>of</strong> three hours work at the appropriate overtimerates.b) The staff member shall not be required to work the full three hours if the job canbe completed within a shorter period.c) When a staff member returns to the place <strong>of</strong> work on a number <strong>of</strong> occasions inthe same day <strong>and</strong> the first or subsequent minimum pay period overlap into thenext call out period, payment shall be calculated from the commencement <strong>of</strong> thefirst recall until either the end <strong>of</strong> duty or three hours from the commencement <strong>of</strong>the last recall, whichever is the greater. Such time shall be calculated as onecontinuous period.d) When a staff member returns to the place <strong>of</strong> work on a second or subsequentoccasion <strong>and</strong> a period <strong>of</strong> three hours has elapsed since the staff member waslast recalled, overtime shall only be paid for the actual time worked in the first<strong>and</strong> subsequent periods with the minimum payment provision only being appliedto the last recall on the day.e) A recall to duty commences when the staff member starts work <strong>and</strong> terminateswhen the work is completed. A recall to duty does not include time spenttravelling to <strong>and</strong> from the place at which work is to be undertaken.f) A staff member recalled to duty within three hours <strong>of</strong> the commencement <strong>of</strong>usual hours <strong>of</strong> duty shall be paid at the appropriate overtime rate from the time <strong>of</strong>recall to the time <strong>of</strong> commencement <strong>of</strong> such normal work.g) In cases where it is customary for a staff member to return to the <strong>Department</strong>’spremises to perform a specific job outside the staff member’s ordinary hours <strong>of</strong>duty, or where overtime is continuous with the completion or commencement <strong>of</strong>ordinary hours <strong>of</strong> duty, the minimum payment <strong>of</strong> three hours will not be paidunless the actual time worked is three or more hours.H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools 2006 V#3 31 January 2007 Page 7 - 6
