1 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT1.7 TRAVELLING COMPENSATIONSection 1.7 should be read in conjunction with clause 17 Travelling Compensation <strong>of</strong> the CrownEmployees (School Administrative <strong>and</strong> Support Staff) Award.1.7.1 GENERAL1.7.1.1 Cost <strong>of</strong> Travel to <strong>and</strong> from Work1.7.2 EXCESS TRAVEL TIME1.7.2.1 GeneralSchool administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff members are responsible for meeting all costsincurred in travelling between their residence <strong>and</strong> their usual place <strong>of</strong> work.Staff members required to perform duty at a location other than their normal place <strong>of</strong> workmay be compensated for travelling time which exceeds the normal travel time betweentheir home <strong>and</strong> normal place <strong>of</strong> work.A school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff member is entitled to claim for excess traveltime when:a) required to travel outside <strong>of</strong> their normal hours <strong>of</strong> duty; <strong>and</strong>b) such travel is necessary in order for the staff member to perform their duties.Excess travel time may be granted for travel associated with activities such as attendinga <strong>Department</strong>al selection committee interview or attending a training <strong>and</strong> developmentactivity.When attending a training <strong>and</strong> development activity, school administrative <strong>and</strong> supportstaff members are entitled to the reimbursement <strong>of</strong> any additional necessary expensesincurred regarding travel, meals <strong>and</strong> accommodation.School administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff may be compensated for excess travel time byeither:i) payment calculated in accordance with Section 1.7.2.2 - 1.7.2.4 <strong>of</strong> the H<strong>and</strong>book; orii) if it is operationally convenient, taking equivalent time <strong>of</strong>f in lieu to be granted forexcess time spent in travelling on <strong>of</strong>ficial business.1.7.2.2 Travel on a Working DaySubject to the provisions <strong>of</strong> 1.7.2.4, where a school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staffmember is entitled to claim for excess travel time as defined in Section 1.7.2.1, the claimfor a working day may include the time spent travelling before the staff member’s ordinarystarting time <strong>and</strong>/or after their normal finishing time.1.7.2.3 Travel on a Non Working DaySubject to the provisions <strong>of</strong> 1.7.2.4, where a school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staffmember is entitled to claim for excess travel time as defined in Section 1.7.2.1, suchH<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools January 2009 Page 1 - 43
