1 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTEmployees’ Compensation) Award.a) Reimbursement <strong>of</strong> any council or other local government rates which are leviedduring a period when the former residence is <strong>of</strong> necessity left vacant. This wouldoccur when a staff member takes up duty in a new location <strong>and</strong> the previousresidence has not been sold. The reimbursement <strong>of</strong> rates would apply from the datethe staff member entered on duty in the new location, having vacated the formerresidence, <strong>and</strong> the date the previous residence is sold.b) Reimbursement <strong>of</strong> survey <strong>and</strong> pest certificates <strong>and</strong> building society registration feesreasonably incurred in seeking financial assistance.c) Reimbursement <strong>of</strong> costs incurred in respect <strong>of</strong> reconnection <strong>of</strong> gas <strong>and</strong>/or electricitysupplies <strong>and</strong> the cost <strong>of</strong> telephone reconnection. The cost <strong>of</strong> telephone reconnectionshall be reimbursed only where a telephone was installed at the former residence.d) Reimbursement <strong>of</strong> the fee charged by Australia Post for the redirection <strong>of</strong> mail forone month.1.4.2.9 <strong>Education</strong> <strong>of</strong> ChildrenThe Award makes provision for payment <strong>of</strong> an allowance to assist with the cost <strong>of</strong> board<strong>and</strong> lodging in cases where a staff member has dependent children who have to continuetheir secondary education in Year 12 at the staff member’s previous location because thechildren’s elected subjects are not available at the new location.The Award also makes provision for payment <strong>of</strong> an allowance to assist with the cost <strong>of</strong>essential school clothing which must be replaced or purchased where a change <strong>of</strong> schoolhas resulted from the staff member’s transfer to a new location. The allowance, however,is only payable in respect <strong>of</strong> each child who is continuing in primary or high school, notentering either for the first time.1.4.2.10 Temporary AccommodationIn certain circumstances, an allowance may be paid to staff members to assist with costsincurred when required to reside in temporary accommodation as a result <strong>of</strong> the newappointment. These <strong>conditions</strong> are contained in clause 4 <strong>of</strong> the Award.Examples <strong>of</strong> situations where assistance can be provided with temporary accommodationcosts include:a) where the staff member is required to vacate their existing residence <strong>and</strong> secureboard <strong>and</strong> lodgings prior to departure for the new location; <strong>and</strong>/orb) where the staff member is required to secure board <strong>and</strong> lodging at the new locationpending a long term residence becoming available.The level <strong>of</strong> assistance that can be provided with temporary accommodation costs mayvary depending on factors such as:a) whether the costs are incurred for the staff member only or the staff member <strong>and</strong>dependants;b) the number <strong>and</strong> age <strong>of</strong> any dependant children;H<strong>and</strong>book for non teaching staff in schools January 2009 Page 1 - 31
