<strong>Climate</strong> <strong>change</strong> <strong>impacts</strong> on environmental systems<br />

The general pattern shows mostly positive <strong>impacts</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> northern <strong>and</strong> Alp<strong>in</strong>e <strong>Europe</strong> (with the notable<br />

exception of biodiversity), predom<strong>in</strong>antly negative<br />

<strong>impacts</strong> <strong>in</strong> southern <strong>Europe</strong> <strong>and</strong> mixed <strong>impacts</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />

cont<strong>in</strong>ental <strong>Europe</strong>. Interest<strong>in</strong>gly, <strong>impacts</strong> for Atlantic<br />

<strong>Europe</strong> are assessed as predom<strong>in</strong>antly negative.<br />

A more detailed discussion of this table is beyond<br />

the scope of the report, <strong>and</strong> the <strong>in</strong>terested reader<br />

is <strong>in</strong>vited to consult the orig<strong>in</strong>al publication for<br />

detailed <strong>in</strong>formation on the underly<strong>in</strong>g methods <strong>and</strong><br />

assumptions, as well as an <strong>in</strong>-depth discussion of the<br />

results.<br />

The results of the IPCC <strong>and</strong> CLIMSAVE assessments<br />

show similar patterns to those of the <strong>in</strong>dicator‐based<br />

climate impact assessments <strong>in</strong> this report:<br />

predom<strong>in</strong>antly negative effects are projected for<br />

warmer regions <strong>in</strong> southern <strong>Europe</strong>, positive effects<br />

prevail <strong>in</strong> cooler regions <strong>in</strong> northern <strong>Europe</strong> <strong>and</strong> a<br />

balance of positive <strong>and</strong> negative effects is expected<br />

<strong>in</strong> temperate regions <strong>in</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ental <strong>and</strong> Atlantic<br />

<strong>Europe</strong>, with some disagreement for the latter region.<br />

Further <strong>in</strong>formation on cross-sectoral climate <strong>change</strong><br />

assessments <strong>in</strong> <strong>Europe</strong>, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the CLIMSAVE<br />

assessment, is available <strong>in</strong> Section 6.2.<br />
