franked with vertical pair and Korean translation of destination and routing in
pencil, one cover with two tears at the top and Russian postmark "received
damaged from abroad" on reverse, the other heavily damaged during transport,
front and sender's address cut out and glued onto replacement cover, on reverse

1932" in German, pre-folded, item of historic interest in excellent condition

Rare North Korean memorial page commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Catholic
Church in North Korea, issued by the Catholic Association in Pyongyang, written
in a curious mix of Chinese and Korean, due to its high number of Christians Pyongyang
was known as Jerusalem of the East before the Communists took over,
since around 1948 any form of practiced religion is being persecuted and even the
mere possession of a Bible is usually punished by imprisonment in forced labor
camps, the Pyongyang parish is one of very few officially endorsed religious communities
in North Korea, however its aim is not practice of religion but rather dissemination
of propaganda, the number of community members cannot be confirmed
independently and is stated as around 3000 by the North Korean regime, the Holy
See estimates the number of Catholics in the Pyongyang parish to be around 800,
prefolded in otherwise excellent condition, rare and historically interesting item
