Pseudobulbs conic crowded on slender rhizome. Leaf I, terete,<br />

4 to 5 in. long. Scape in basal sheath woolly, 2 in. long. Flowers<br />

I or 2, pale lemon. Bracts ovate, '12 in. long. Pedicel '75 in.<br />

long. Upper sepallanceolate, '5 in. long, laterals broad triangular;<br />

mentum large round, all woolly outside, rather large round. Petals<br />

linear woolly. Lip dull red. Hab. Mountains, on trees at 2000<br />

to 6000 ft. altitude, more rarely in mangroves. Singapore, Kranji.<br />

Rhizome branching; pseudobulbs obovate narrowed above<br />

into a stalk covered with a reticulate sheath below, 3 in. long,<br />

I in. through, 2 in. apart. Leaves 2, lanceolate or lorate coriaceous,<br />

4 in. long, '75 to I in. wide. Flower I, scape 2 in. long<br />

in a long sheath. Upper sepal lanceolate, laterals broad triangular<br />

acute, '5 in. long; mentum thick long, inside ochre, outside red<br />

pubescent. Petals narrower, light yellow lorate-Ianceolate blunt<br />

pubescent. Lip lanceolate, side-lobes obscure, central ridge and<br />

disc of midlobe papillose deep purple. Column tall yellow, foot<br />

short, arms'incurved. Hab. Local. Penang, rocks on the hill at<br />

2500 ft. altitude (Maingay, Curtis). Distrib. Java, Borneo.<br />

short blunt. Petals shorter lanceolate yellow. Lip entire, oblong<br />

acute fleshy, purple, centre nearly yellow. Column slender, green.<br />

13. TRICHOTOSIA, Blume.<br />

Tall or short, sometimes woody plants, densely hairy leafy, no<br />

pseudobulbs. Leaves fleshy sessile alternate. Flowers hairy<br />

sessile in small or long axillary racemes, I to many, covered with<br />

red hairs outside. Sep',!ls as in Eria but usually sub-equal; mentum<br />

moderately long. Petals narrower. Lip usually sub-entire, base<br />

narrow, limb quite entire or obscurely 3-lobed; midlobe sometimes
