A low little-branched shrub, 2 to 3 ft. tall. Leaves elliptic to<br />

elliptic-Ianceolate cuspidate, base narrowed into petiole, 3 in. wide;<br />

petioles of lower leaves I to 2 in. long, channelled not winged; of<br />

upper leaves broadly winged. Inflorescence racemose not or hardly<br />

branched, 9 in. long, the lower half flowerless. Flowers 5 or 6 in<br />

a tuft, white on pedicels '12 in. long. Perianth I in. long, split<br />

half-way, lobes linear blunt. Berry small globose to 3-lobed,<br />

'25 in. through when I-seeded, orange red. Seeds I to 3. Hab.<br />

Common in lowland woods. Singapore, Garden Jungle; Changi.<br />

Johor, Tanjong Surat and Jambu Larang (Feildmg). Malacca,<br />

Sungei Hudang. Pahang, Tahan River. Perak, Kol; DIu Kal<br />

and Larut (KunstIer). Dindings, Lumut. Penang, Balik Pulau<br />

and Pulau Betong (Curtis). Kedah, Gurun (Robinson).<br />

This has commonly been identIfied with the Indian D splcata, Roxb<br />

but that is described as caulescent by Roxburgh and as arboreous by Hooker.<br />

It resembles D. POl'tel'i, but has broad elliptic leaves.<br />

Dwarf shrub, I ft. tall, '25 in. through. Leaves elliptic or lanceolate<br />

acute, 7 in. long, 2'5 in. wide, dull green; petioles slightly<br />

winged, 2 in. long or less. Raceme 2 in. long; pedicels '12 in.<br />

long. Flowers white, lobes free more than half-way lorate. Stamens<br />

shorter. Fruit small, globose red. Hab. Not common in den!>e<br />

jungle in the south. Singapore, Bukit Timah; Chan Chu Kang.<br />

Johor, Gunong Pantai (Ridley).<br />

Dwarf shrub, I ft. tall, stem '12 in. through. Leaves oblong<br />

or elliptic or lanceolate acuminate, 6 in. long, 2 in. wide, light<br />

green with pale circular blotches; petioles I in. long. Raceme<br />

4 or 5 in. long; flowers rather crowded. Flowers'5 in. long,<br />

pinkish, pedicels less than '24 in. long. Hab. Open sandy spots<br />

in the north. Perlis, sandy heath on Ginting Kabok (Ridley).<br />

A dwarf species with a woody stem 3 to 6 in. tall and '5 in.<br />

through with stout roots. Leaves elliptic to nearly lanceolate •<br />

acuminate or cuspidate rather abruptly narrowed at the base,<br />

6 to 9 in. long, 2'5 to 3 in. wide; petioles 3 to 6 in. long, slightly<br />

winged, sheathing at base and '25 in. wide. Panicle short and<br />

dense, 3 in. long, many flowered; peduncle 2 in. long. Flowers<br />

reddish white, I in. long; pedicels 'II in. long. Perianth-Iobes<br />

free half-way down linear blunt. Berry small, 1- to 3-seeded.<br />

Hab. In woods, and especially among limestone rocks in shady<br />

spots. Pahang, Kota Glanggi, limestone rocks; Tahan woods.
