Pseudo bulb conic short. Leaves appearing with the flowers,<br />

lanceolate acuminate, 12 to 18 in. long, 1'5 in. wide. Scape I to<br />

1'5 ft. tall. Flowers numerous. Bracts lanceolate acuminate,<br />

'5 in. long. Ovary and pedicel 1 in. long. Upper sepal lanceolate<br />

cuspidate, laterals prolonged at base into a conic mentum '25 in.<br />

long, brownish green, '5 in. long. Petals ovate-oblong crisp, veins<br />

on disc thick 4, base of lip ochreous, side-lobes veined ochre, tip<br />

pale lilac. Column broad with large opening to mentum, spur<br />

white streaked pink. Anther conic with 2 white or crimson knobs.<br />

Capsule fusiform, 2 in. long. Hab. Common in open grassy country.<br />

Singapore, Tanglin; Chan Chu Rang. Johor, Batu Pahat; Rota<br />

Tinggi (Ridley); Sedili River (Nanson). Malacca, Machap (Derry).<br />

Negri Sembilan, in old rubber fields (Williams). Perak (Scortechini).<br />

Hooker's E. elata is based on ScortechmI's specimen 2023, which is E.<br />

squaltda, but Scortechmi's drawing 2023 is of E. nzacrorrkiza.<br />

Pseudobulbs conic, 4 in. long, I in. thick, green. Leaves linear<br />

acute, 6 in. long, '25 in. wide. Scapes lateral, I to 3 ft. tall, slender<br />

branched. Flowers numerous, I in. long. Bracts '12 in. long,<br />

linear acuminate. Sepals lanceolate-linear acute. Petals little<br />

broader green with brown reticulations. Lip side-lobes blunt;<br />

midlobe obovate undulate crisp, white veined violet, white-hairy;<br />

nerves on disc 3, spur short clubbed. Column slender erect.<br />

Anther broad 2 purple processes at top. Capsule elliptic, 3 in.<br />

long. ',Hab. Common in fields and open sandy spots. Singapore<br />

(Wallich, Cuming). Chan Chu Rang. Johor, Batu Pahat (Kelsall).<br />
