Stems 3 to 6 ft. long or more. Leaves amplexicaul ovate<br />

distant, I in. long, '75 in. wide. Peduncles stiff, 4 to 10 in. long;<br />

racemes 3 to 6 in. long; bracts ovate, '25 in. long. Flowers I in.<br />

across, lilac or white. Sepals and petals ovate blunt. Petals<br />

smaller, spreading. Lip shorter, side-lobes falcate acute, midlobe<br />

blunt conic with an oblong callus on disc, base saccate. Capsule<br />

cylindric, 4 in. long, '25 in. thick. Hab. In grassy open swamps,<br />

terrestrial scrambling over bushes. Singapore, Holland Road;<br />

Selitar. Johor, Genuang. Pahang River, Pulau Chengei; Pekan.<br />

Malacca, Ayer Panas (Derry); Chabau. Selangor, Pudu (Goodenough);<br />

var. montanum Rid!. A fairly stout, much-drawn-up plant with<br />

more distant lance_olate leaves and stouter peduncle with longer<br />

sheathing leaves and sepals and petals rather acute. Hab. Mountains<br />

at 4000 to 5000 ft. altitude, in forest. Pahang, Telom. Perak,<br />

Thaiping Hills near cottage.<br />

Perhaps Blume's ill-described T. amplexicaulzs I have never been able<br />

to find any flowers In a fit state to describe Blume descnbes the lip of<br />

Stems stout, 10 to 12 ft. long or less, slightly flattened. Leaves<br />

cucullate, '25 in. long. Flowers 2 in. across, white fragrant;<br />

pedicels and ovary '5 in. long. Sepals broad lanceolate acute<br />

keeled. Petals narrower oblanceolate. Lip shoe-shaped, base<br />

saccate, side-lobes falcate acute, midlobe conic blunt, callus oblong<br />

truncate, retuse at top, all white except orange round callus, and small<br />

orange and crimson dots at base of lip. Capsule cylindric, 6 in. long.<br />
