ophirens,s on account of its reticulated leaves; the Gunong Mengkuang<br />

Lebah plant is the same. It appears to be merely a local state.<br />

Stem rather slender unarmed. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic or<br />

oblong-Ianceolate acute, base shortly narrowed, 3 to 6 in. long,<br />

l'S to 3 in. wide; petioles thick, '2 in. long. Umbels I to 3 on a<br />

peduncle 'l to '2S in. long, with longer secondary peduncles '4 in.<br />

across; flowers small. Sepals linear blunt. Stamens long, filaments<br />

filiform. Hab. Hill forests. Penang (Wallich); Moniot's<br />

Road (Curtis).<br />

Stem stout, woody, thorny at base. Leaves (adult) stiff coriaceous,<br />

dark green, when young mottled grey, oblong to elliptic,<br />

base round or narrowed, tip round or blunt; nerves 3; 3 to 8 in.<br />

long, I ,to 4 in. wide; petioles 'S to l'S in. long, thick twisted,<br />

sheathing half-way. Tendrils strong, IO in. long. Umbels'S in.<br />

across; pedicels short. Male flowers '2S -in. long, white. Sepals<br />

linear-oblong. Females larger. Staminodes 3. Fruit as big as a<br />

cherry, yellow or purple-black. Seeds discoid. Hab. Common<br />

in low country in woods. Singapore,_ Tanglin; Bukit Mandai.<br />

Malacca, Malaka Pindah; Panchur; Batang Malaka (Derry).<br />
