De Candolle makes the Ophir plant a variety under the name of var.
ophirens,s on account of its reticulated leaves; the Gunong Mengkuang
Lebah plant is the same. It appears to be merely a local state.

Stem rather slender unarmed. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic or
oblong-Ianceolate acute, base shortly narrowed, 3 to 6 in. long,
l'S to 3 in. wide; petioles thick, '2 in. long. Umbels I to 3 on a
peduncle 'l to '2S in. long, with longer secondary peduncles '4 in.
across; flowers small. Sepals linear blunt. Stamens long, filaments
filiform. Hab. Hill forests. Penang (Wallich); Moniot's
Road (Curtis).

Stem stout, woody, thorny at base. Leaves (adult) stiff coriaceous,
dark green, when young mottled grey, oblong to elliptic,
base round or narrowed, tip round or blunt; nerves 3; 3 to 8 in.
long, I ,to 4 in. wide; petioles 'S to l'S in. long, thick twisted,
sheathing half-way. Tendrils strong, IO in. long. Umbels'S in.
across; pedicels short. Male flowers '2S -in. long, white. Sepals
linear-oblong. Females larger. Staminodes 3. Fruit as big as a
cherry, yellow or purple-black. Seeds discoid. Hab. Common
in low country in woods. Singapore,_ Tanglin; Bukit Mandai.
