on leafless stems 3- to 6-flowered; 3 to 3'5 in. wide. Sepals and<br />

petals oblong, undulate and twisted, rose lilac; mentum conic.<br />

Lip sub-saccate, limb orbicular erose pubescent and ciliate, light<br />

yellow. Hab. Rare. Penang. A large clump at Balik Pulau<br />

(Haniff). Distrib. Burma, S. Siam.<br />

Often cultivated, possibly a garden escape.<br />

10. BULBOPHYLLUM, Thouars.<br />

Epiphytes with creeping rhizome and one jointed pseudobulb.<br />

Leaf one, sub-terminal on the pseudobulb coriaceous, oblanceolate,<br />

ovate or lineate. Flowers one to many in a raceme, peduncled from<br />

the rhizome close to the pseudobulb. Sepals lanceolate, similar,<br />

or laterals larger. Petals smaller. Lip fleshy curved or flat,<br />

tongue-shaped movable on the end of the column foot. Column<br />

short, thick, with a long curved foot to which the lateral sepals<br />

are usually adnate, arms short or long erect, entire or bifid. Anther<br />

conic or flat. Pollinia 2 to 4 ovoid or elliptic in unequal pairs.<br />

Species about 400, all tropics.<br />

§ I. Sestochzlus. Flowers large, solitary (rarely 2 or more) on a long<br />

peduncle, spreading. Sepals sub-equal; petals nearly as large.<br />
