Stem 6 in. long, purple creeping, ascending fleshy. Leaves<br />

ovate acuminate, 4 to 9, red, base round, 3 to 4 in. long, 2 in. wide.<br />

Raceme 5 in. tall; rachis angled. Flowers '25 in. wide, crowded.<br />

Sepals elliptic broad, tip round, lateral ones broader. Petals linear<br />

blunt, all red. Lip orange yellow, auricles broad round, limb<br />

obovate, quadrate with 2 round angle lobes and 5 acute teeth<br />

between. Hab. Very rare, in wet mud in dense forest, Johor,<br />

Sedenak (Ridley). Perak (Scortechini).<br />

Small epiphytes, stem usually short, coverec;l with distichous<br />

fleshy equitant leaves. Spike terminal slender, covered with<br />

minute green yellow or red flowers; bracts short oblong; petals<br />

and sepals ovate deflexed. Lip entire or lobed, with a nectar depression<br />

(fovea) at base. Column very short, arms short. Pollinia 4<br />

on a viscid disc. Capsule globose or elliptic. Species about 60,<br />

Old World tropics and Japan.<br />
