I ft. long, 6 in. across, dark green above, purple and pubescent
beneath; petioles 4 in. long. Spike from between leaves 4 in.
long. Bracts few, I in. long, deep red. Corolla tube I in. long,
white, lobes lanceolate acute, '5 in. long, white or light yellow.
Staminodes oblong blunt. Stamens pubescent. Lip obovate bilobed
denticulate yellow, with pink streaks at base. Stamen
pubescent, crest none or very short. Hab. In forests locally
abundant. Perak, Thaiping Hills; Tapah (Wray); Temengoh;
Goping; Sira Rimau (Yapp); Dindings, GUllong Tungul (Ridley).

Leaves 2 or 3 in a tuft, lanceolate sub-acute narrowed to base,
midrib beneath hairy, 8 in. long, 2'5 in. wide; petioles 6 in. long.
Peduncle 3 in. long. Spike obconic, I to 2 in. long. Bracts ovatelanceolate
green acute, '75 in. long or less. Calyx '25 in. long.
Corolla tube '5 in. long, lobes oblong, '25 in. long. Staminodes
much smaller, pubescent. Lip oblong blunt white, tip yellowish,
sides barred crimson. Filament pubescent; anther-crest small
ovate. Hab. Wet spots in forest. Perak, Bujong Malacca (Curtis) ;
Tapah; Chanderiang (Kunstler).

Rhizome slender, far creeping. Leaf I, ovate acute, base round,
glabrous, 8 in. long, 4 in. wide, purple beneath; petiole slender,
18 in. long. Peduncle 4 to 6 in. long. Spike obconic, I'S in. long.
Bracts broad ovate, tips recurved rosy. Flowers white. Corolla
tube 'S in. long, lobes linear acute, '5 in. long. Staminodes broader
lorate blunt. Lip oblong-obovate emarginate round, white, central
bar yellow, with violet streaks. Anther oblong, crest broad recurved,
violet. Hab. Very local, but abundant. Pahang, Tahan
River woods to mouth of Teku River (Ridley).

Leaves oblong thin usually tufted. Spikes peduncled. Bracts large
ovate forming a cone, upper ones empty, lower ones containing
several fugacious flowers with several bracteoles. Calyx short,
cylindric toothed. Corolla tube funnel-shaped, lobes oblong or
ovate. Staminodes petaloid. Lip orbicular or ovate. Stamen
filament broad short, anther-cells linear, spurred at base. Style
filiform; ovary 3-celled. -Capsule globose, 3-valved. Seed arillate.
Species about 35, India, Siam, Malaya, Australia.
