beneath; petioles 4 in. long. Spike from between leaves 4 in.<br />

long. Bracts few, I in. long, deep red. Corolla tube I in. long,<br />

white, lobes lanceolate acute, '5 in. long, white or light yellow.<br />

Staminodes oblong blunt. Stamens pubescent. Lip obovate bilobed<br />

denticulate yellow, with pink streaks at base. Stamen<br />

pubescent, crest none or very short. Hab. In forests locally<br />

abundant. Perak, Thaiping Hills; Tapah (Wray); Temengoh;<br />

Goping; Sira Rimau (Yapp); Dindings, GUllong Tungul (Ridley).<br />

Leaves 2 or 3 in a tuft, lanceolate sub-acute narrowed to base,<br />

midrib beneath hairy, 8 in. long, 2'5 in. wide; petioles 6 in. long.<br />

Peduncle 3 in. long. Spike obconic, I to 2 in. long. Bracts ovatelanceolate<br />

green acute, '75 in. long or less. Calyx '25 in. long.<br />

Corolla tube '5 in. long, lobes oblong, '25 in. long. Staminodes<br />

much smaller, pubescent. Lip oblong blunt white, tip yellowish,<br />

sides barred crimson. Filament pubescent; anther-crest small<br />

ovate. Hab. Wet spots in forest. Perak, Bujong Malacca (Curtis) ;<br />

Tapah; Chanderiang (Kunstler).<br />

Rhizome slender, far creeping. Leaf I, ovate acute, base round,<br />

glabrous, 8 in. long, 4 in. wide, purple beneath; petiole slender,<br />

18 in. long. Peduncle 4 to 6 in. long. Spike obconic, I'S in. long.<br />

Bracts broad ovate, tips recurved rosy. Flowers white. Corolla<br />

tube 'S in. long, lobes linear acute, '5 in. long. Staminodes broader<br />

lorate blunt. Lip oblong-obovate emarginate round, white, central<br />

bar yellow, with violet streaks. Anther oblong, crest broad recurved,<br />

violet. Hab. Very local, but abundant. Pahang, Tahan<br />

River woods to mouth of Teku River (Ridley).<br />

Herbs usually with thick fleshy rhizomes, stems short or o.<br />

Leaves oblong thin usually tufted. Spikes peduncled. Bracts large<br />

ovate forming a cone, upper ones empty, lower ones containing<br />

several fugacious flowers with several bracteoles. Calyx short,<br />

cylindric toothed. Corolla tube funnel-shaped, lobes oblong or<br />

ovate. Staminodes petaloid. Lip orbicular or ovate. Stamen<br />

filament broad short, anther-cells linear, spurred at base. Style<br />

filiform; ovary 3-celled. -Capsule globose, 3-valved. Seed arillate.<br />

Species about 35, India, Siam, Malaya, Australia.
