lanceolate subulate. Ovary sessile. Petals and sepals linearoblong.<br />

Anther linear cordate. No trace of third stamen. Hab.<br />

Not common. In forests. Malacca, Mt. Ophir. Perak, DIu Batang<br />

Padang (Wray).<br />

Herbs with a short stem or a bulb. Leaves radical herbaceous.<br />

Scapes .naked. Perianth superior, tube long or short or 0; lobes<br />

subequal and similar. Stamens 6 adnate to base of lobes; filaments<br />

slender; anthers linear. Ovary 3-celled inferior; ovules<br />

many, 2-seriate in the inner angle of the cells. Fruit capsular or<br />

baccate. Seeds few or many, albuminous. Distrib. Whole world,<br />

rarer in tropics.<br />

Stem tuberous. Leaves narrow. Flowers yellow, racemed or<br />

umbellate or solitary. Perianth rotate sessile on the top of the<br />

ovary. Stamens with short filaments; anthers erect dorsified.<br />

Style short. Stigmas 3 stout. Capsule 3-valved or circumsciss,<br />

not beaked. Seeds sub-globose. Species about 50, chiefly African<br />

and Australian.<br />

A small hairy herb; stem cylindric or globose, fibrillose. Leaves<br />

elliptic-Ianceolate, backs hairy, '5 in. long. Capsule trivalved,<br />

clavate, '25 to '3 in. long. Seeds black tubercled. Hab. In sandy<br />

grassy spots. Rare. Pahang, Pulau Manis, Pahang River.<br />

Province Wellesley, Tasek Gelugur. Setul (Ridley). Distrib.<br />

India, Malay islands, China, Japan.<br />

Stem tuberous or a corm. Leaves large plicate petiolate<br />

lanceolate or linear flat. Scapes short. Flowers yellow spicate,<br />

racemed or sub-capitate. Perianth base produced into a solid<br />

stipes above the ovary, limb rotate 6-lobed. Fruit baccate, beaked.<br />

Species about 12, Tropical Asia and Africa.
