Plant 1'5 in. tall, I-flowered. Leaves and bracts lanceolate<br />

with glandular hairs. Perianth-tube I in. long, urn-shaped pink,<br />

striped darker. Sepals and petals triangular with terete processes<br />

from the backs, pink, annulus brown. Style longer than in most<br />

species, arms oblong-Ianceolate papillose. Hab. Very rare. Johor,<br />

Bukit Tana Abang, Sembrong River (Kelsall).<br />

Plant 2 to 3 in. tall; stem erect from creeping rhizome, branched<br />

or single. Flowers solitary on the end of each branch. Perianthtube<br />

obconic, '5 in. long, fuscous. Sepals and petals similar,<br />

triangular, terminated by cylindric tails, '5 in. long, bright orange.<br />

Capsule brown ribbed. Hab. In dense forest, the commonest<br />

and most conspicuous species. Singapore, woodlands (Beccari);<br />

Bukit Timah; Kranji. Pahang Kota Glanggi; Selangor, PetaIing<br />

(Ridley).<br />

Plant 3 in. tall. Flowers I or 2 on short dark brown pedicels.<br />

Perianth-tube oblong deflexed above the ovary, '25 in. long, deep<br />

chocolate brown; annulus yellow. Sepals and petals filiform<br />

from a wider base, deep brown, ciliate. Ovary pink. Capsule<br />

turbinate rugose. Seeds fusiform rugose. Hab. Malacca, Mt.<br />

Ophir on rotten logs at about 3000 ft. altitude (Ridley). Very<br />

rare.<br />

4. BAGNISIA, Becc.<br />

Fleshy saprophytes like Thismia, but the sepals are spathulate<br />

and connate at tip, forming a dome over the mouth of the tube.<br />

No petals. Stamens 6 connate by the connectives. Style short;<br />

stigma 6-lobed. Species (including Geomitra Becc.) 3 or 4, Borneo<br />

and Malay Peninsula.<br />

(I) B. crocea Beee. Males. i. 249; var. brunnea Ridl. Mat. i.<br />

75· A very small saprophyte I in. tall; rhizome stout entirely<br />

red brown. Flower solitary, larger than the stem. Perianthtube<br />

enlarged upwards thick almost pear-shaped. Sepals linear<br />

connate at tips. Bab. Very rare. A single specimen obtained<br />

in dense forest below Gunong Hijau on the Thaiping Hills at about<br />

4000 ft. altitude. The original species is from Borneo.
